He is a seriously cool and laid back guy, always fun to be around.

He also has a seriously cool job saving lives working for the Fire/EMS department in MD.

I first met Jaimie, his then girlfriend, when I was Amanda's bridesmaid in December of last year.

These two were having so much fun on the dance floor

and Jaimie looked FABULOUS in her red dress.

It was obvious to anyone around that they were, and are, crazy about each other.

Lorena & Ron {Wedding}

We first met at the restaurant Open City in DC.

Before they sat down, both greeted me with the warmest, most welcoming hugs.

Anyone that knows me knows I'm a sucker for a good hug. I was instantly in love with this couple!

We sat and chatted about their lives together and their wedding plans.

Both Buddhists, very active in the community, fun, and upbeat positive people,

I was thrilled to be a part of their ceremony.

It was truly an incredible event, and their theme all about the love was felt by all.

Lorena even streamed the event to her family in Argentina!

I met Trysh and Jarrett through my very first maternity client.

They have a seriously cool answer to my question I always ask --

"so, how did you two meet?"

I LOVE a good story.

So, once upon a time,

yes I'm leading with once upon a time I know it's cliché but it's a classic.

Don't hate.

Once upon a time Trysh was a bank teller and where Jarrett banked.

She caught his eye.

He knew there was something special about her...

It took Jarrett some time to get up the nerve to ask Trysh out.

Every time he came to the bank he would try to visit her window.

Counting the people ahead of him... doing the numbers...

hoping to have the chance to speak with her again <3

One day when he was lucky enough to land on her window, he decided to make the move.

He passed Trysh a note.

Only, if you've ever worked in the banking industry

you know you're trained that robbers may pass you a note...

Trysh froze.

She wasn't too sure how to react.

Hit the silent alarm?

Read the note?

He seemed like a nice enough guy... she had seen him in the bank several times before....

She read the note.

Which asked her out on their very first date.

That was almost ten years ago,

and the rest, they say, is history.

They are expecting their first little one in December and I am so looking forward to meeting this little guy.

Trysh and Jarrett, it was such a pleasure meeting you two.

I certainly prefer shooting outdoors in natural light, but sometimes you can't get all you wish for!

On this particular day we had planned to shoot indoors and out, but the cold rain did not agree.

What do you do when it's gross, dark, and cloudy outside and there's no available window light inside?

Break out the off camera flash for traditional indoor family photos

...and then run outside in the freezing rain for a couple :)

Hired just days before, I didn't get to meet the happy couple until the day of their wedding!

(Talk about last minute!)

Despite the language barrier and not getting to know them as I do most my brides and grooms,

I had a wonderful time meeting this sweet, sincere couple.

After waking up at 5 a.m., driving to Wilmington, DE and getting terribly lost...

thank YOU out-dated GPS...

we had about 20 minutes to capture some family photos before the Juvenile Diabetes Walk.

This is the Wickersham family - they are truly close to my heart.

Evan, at top, has Type 1 Diabetes and Ciliacs.

They recently discovered that their youngest, Brett, will likely have Type 1 Diabetes as well.

The strength and determination that the Wickershams have is inspiring.

With four children, a hectic schedule, and fighting Diabetes every day,

they are one of the happiest and well grounded families I know.

It has been a while since I woke up at 5:00 a.m.

But this past Sunday I did just that and immediately jumped on Rt. 301 to Wilmington, DE.

I was on a special mission to meet a fantastic family of 6 for family photos before

volunteering at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk.

Excited for what the day had to bring, I watched the sun rise.

I had to pull over to take an image. It was just one of those moments.

Meet a very special and super awesome family!

It takes an incredible volunteer to raise a dog, train them to work as a guide dog,

then let them go when it's time. I don't think I could do it...

Yet, that's exactly what this family has done. I think it is truly phenominal.

They have been raising Saffron for Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

Come next month it will be time for her become someone's guide dog

providing them with companionship and independence.

Saffron is such a sweet girl, the person that gets to take her home is very, very lucky.

Goodbye Summer {and Back to My Color Study}

Okay, look... I'll say it.

I hate winter.

Hate is a very strong word and I don't like using it... but... it's how I feel goshdarnet!

I can't keep warm (no matter how many layers I pile on), the days are short, I hardly get to see the sun,

I always pack on the few pounds I lost over summer (to keep warm, of course), my skin is dry...

I could go on and on, but I'll stop myself here.

Thinking about winter makes me sad.

But there's a silver lining to the darkness of winter.

Snow is pretty and fun to play in, there's hot cocoa, tall boots, fires in the fireplace,

good food (that leads to those extra pounds... but nevermind that...)

Christmas, snow days, snuggles to keep warm... Plus, fall precedes winter, and I heart fall.

Okay I feel a little better.

But, after Labor Day when all the nasty weather hit, I was driving home from work in DC.

Just that morning I had been in a small accident going into the city (my first car accident) and

I was quite peeved at the traffic on the way out.

I sat, and sat... and sat... and finally called my girlfriend to talk about my woes.

I'm not one to complain, I hate complaining... BUT I was just letting it all out on this particular day.

The accident that morning, winter around the corner, two jobs, a hectic day at work,
and NOW the sitting in traffic... it all just piled up.
I heard myself sounding like a whiney child.
No bueno.

I decided to call it my Grey Period and do something with my woes.

Hello Color - Texture Project which I have been neglecting.

For those of you that follow my lil blog - sorry!

Client photos come first, and my little project fell to the wayside.

But it's back, in shades of grey.

When I came inside from shooting I found my grey kitty cat Maggie snoozing in her fave spot.

I set my camera down and snuggled with her on that grey dreary day

...and for a moment all felt right in the world.

Delaney {17 Months}

Amanda & Jordan {Expecting}

Meet my dear friends Amanda and Jordan.

Amanda and I were college roommates at Salisbury University.

I am so incredibly happy for these two, they're expecting their first little one any day now!

A little background, because of a medical condition there was always concern as to weather Amanda would be able to get pregnant. She loves kids and has always wanted to have children of her own.

I can't say enough about Amanda, she is one of the most caring, loving, sincere people I know.

When she met Jordan and I heard about the connection they have I was so happy for her.

They were married late in December of 2011 (I was a bridesmaid!).

Yes, do the math folks, these two conceived on their honeymoon in Hawaii! :)

They do not know whether they're having a boy or a girl, it's the big mystery.

They've been calling their little bundle of joy Thumper,

but have a boy's name and a girl's name picked out.

I tried to to be slick by asking them to write the two names in the sand at our shoot.

No go. These guys are on lock down!
I guess I'll just have to wait with everyone else to welcome Thumper into this world.

Congratulations again Amanda and Jordan, I can't wait to meet Thumper, love you guys!

Ruby & Daniel {Wedding}

Ruby and Daniel's wedding was unlike any other I have had the pleasure to experience before.

The day was filled with many traditional ceremonies and a lot of love.

There were Vietnamese, Catholic, and Chinese ceremonies throughout the day,
all of which were concluded with a HUGE party!

They first held the Vietnamese Ceremony at home where many gifts were presented
and the Groom received his Bride. Ruby looked stunning in her Ao dai.

They then held their Catholic Ceremony in Washington, D.C. at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart.

The Chinese Tea Ceremony was rich with history and meaning as well.

Each of the Groom's elders was formally served tea by the newlyweds,

they then receive lucky red envelopes stuffed with money or jewlery,

along with a few words of encouragment and well wishes.

Lastly, their Reception was held at Fortune Chinese Seafood Restaurant in Falls Church, VA.

The guests were served an incredible multi-course seafood meal

(courses were still being served when I left at 11:00 p.m.!) and danced the evening away.

All of the guests loved watching their proposal video!

They're both teachers and he surprised her at work, it was the most incredibly romantic video.

Of course, I loved seeing their engagement photos incorporated into the Reception area.

One VERY happy couple!

The dance floor was PACKED all night long - Electra Entertainment did a fantastic job

I love a good surprise party.

I love the details, pretty things, yummy food, laughter, and celebration.

When my co-worker asked me to help coordinate

my other co-worker's Surprise Bridal Shower, I was game.

Really, I'm a bit late posting this. See... she's already married.

Just tied the knot two weeks ago!

*whoops*

We were all concerned that she would know about the surprise

(there was a bridal shower for another co-worker the week prior!)

but we were sneaky, sneaky and got her!

She was convinced on the way to the conference room that there was an emergency

and that one of her attorney required a large stack of documents right away.

She was quite frantic when she arrived,

but but ultimately I think she was pleased with the results :)

Hope you had a great honeymoon, now, welcome back to the office :-P

CD Packaging {A Mild Re-vamp}

I decided to re-vamp my packaging a bit, less brown kraft and more GREEN! {My fave}

For my felow photog friends, I am still using the fabulous ReBinder CD cases made 100% recycled fibers. Yeah, I feel good about that :)

There is also a photo print release in every package to have prints made.

New Moo business cards and stickers are coming in the mail and I can't wait!

I will share photos once they arrive.

Rachel & C.J. {Wedding}

You may remember Rachel and C.J. from their family session in the beginning of Spring.

Surrounded by friends and family, they tied the knot in Downtown Annapolis in June
at the beautiful Fleet Reserve Club.

These two are an incredibly sweet couple.

He's the yin to her yang, they keep eachother balanced.

It was a delight to photograph the love they have for eachother on such an important day in their lives.

Rachel and C.J. wanted to do a first look on their wedding day.

When I first heard this I was so thrilled I could barely contain myself!

Their first look allowed us the time to capture many beautiful images on the streets of Annapolis
before their ceremony and reception.

Untraditional? Yes.

A FANTASTIC idea? YES!

so I was super excited to meet baby Riley this weekend.

She has such a sweet personality and a pretty smile.

Love this little lady!

Her parents are very athletic, so she got geared up in sports-wear.

Our shoot had worn her out though, and she fell asleep almost immediately :)

It's my favorite time of the year!

~SUMMERTIME~

For me this means outdoor grillin, late sunsets, tiki torches on the deck, photoshoot booked weekends,

lots of friend's and family's birthdays, bike rides, backpacking, etc. etc. etc.

Basically FUN! ...and very BUSY :)

Sooo... I didn't get to my May Color | Texture.

However, I have been shooting. A lot.

I have made it a priority to shoot most of my personal life in film this summer.

Something about it... Instantly nostalgic. Grainy. Colorful.

I'll share some, of course, but that's for another post.

For now, here's some prettiness from the first few days of summertime.

Jane & Sik {Wedding Reception}

Jane and Sik were married in Korea back in December.

I had the pleasure of meeting them a couple times, once before their Korean wedding and once after.

You may remember their engagement session from Brookside Gardens.

While already married, it was important to them to have a reception in the US with friends and family.

They held their Reception at the Valley Mansion in Hunt Valley.

I loved witnessing all of the vibrant Korean details that were incorporated into their party.

It was a wonderful blend of traditional and modern details.

Jane's traditional white socks, red silk shoes, and her elaborate Hanbok
paired beautifully with her stunning diamond earrings and modern hair.

Not to mention the beautiful cake and locally grown flowers from Local Color Flowers!

Each and every wedding is unique and it makes me so happy to be able to capture the little details, those quick glances of love, the twirl on the dance floor, and the shared smiles of happiness between friends.

Jane and Sik's Reception was such a joyful celebration filled with
tradition, prayer, laughter, and lots of dancing! These two are truly loved by many.

One thing that I have become accustomed to seeing at weddings is the older folks heading out
once the dance party starts.

Not here!

In fact, the older folks were the life of the party and really added to the celebration.

It was refreshing to see, and I hope to have this much pep in my step when I get older!!

South River High School {2011 Prom}

*Ahhhh Prom* Anyone else remember their Senior Prom? What a fun time!

This is Alison. (Isn't she ridiculously beautiful?!)

I used to babysit this young lady when she was running through the house in her pajamas and I was

waiting for her parents to come home simultaneously trying to keep an eye on her infant younger sister

while cleaning up the mess from dinner and all the toys...

and making it back to the couch to watch 5 minutes of TV before her parents got home. Pfew!

Hehe - I love my babysitting memories :) I used to sit for most the kids in our neighborhood and

I was pretty darned good at it if I do say so myself. I have always loved kids.

I got to hang out with Alison and her sister a lot because they're right next door.

Anyway, sorry for the trip down memory lane... back to the matter at hand. PROM!

Alison is still a Junior but her boyfriend of 1 year, Mike, is a South River High School Senior.

These two are very easy on the eyes, especially paired together.

I had fun photographing them and being able to experience this day with them.

I just wish I could have gone to the dance. I love the Prom. It holds a special place in my heart.
Plus, I love to dance.

But I don't think they would let me in ;)

Mike has a thing for fancy sneakers. He brought over this pair since the blue matches. I like this shot :)

Don't worry folks - it's sparkling cider!

After leaving Alison's house we went down the street a bit to catch up with some of Alison's friends.

The plan was to do a bunch of group shots

but a few were fashionably late so it got broken up into smaller group shots. Still fun none-the-less!

Jesse's dress was stunning too -- love the watercolor flowers and flowy fabric. So whimsical :)

We waited around and chatted it up before heading outside for a few group shots...

On a personal note, I want to take this opportunity to tell a little story...!

Once upon a time I had a HUGE crush on this guy named Reggie.

This crush started Sophomore Year of high school, but I was always too shy to do anything about it.

It lasted throughout high school and we were acquaintances through other friends

but I never managed to catch his attention as anything more than a friend.

C'mon give me a break. These were awkward years.

Well.... come our senior prom I decided to go alone.

I know what you're thinking. Decided? Yeah right. That's what they all say...

Yes, decided, I had two guys ask me!

Anyway... That guy Reggie? Well he already had a date but I was determined to finally catch his eye.

~ I did just that ~

I remember that one second in time when he first saw me on the dance floor

and he stopped dead in his tracks.

You can't tell from the photo but that dress was awesome!

Long story short Reggie left the prom with me, not his date.

8 years later. We are going strong and I love him more and more with each passing day.

I am one lucky girl.

...and I have one corny and cliche love story.

p.s. I am not a bad person for "stealing" Reggie from his date if that's how you're looking at it.

He actually spent much of the evening with her because he's a truly great guy

and wouldn't just ditch someone like that.

Plus, I later learned they went as friends.

That's what I call a win - win.

Shelly & Ron {Engaged}

Shelly and I are good friends from a long, long way back.

Like, 5 years old hangin' out at recess in kindergarden. Way back.

We lost touch when I moved away from Bowie but we found each other again

through good ole' Facebook! I really couldn't be more thankful to call her my friend.

Shelly has grown into such an incredible woman.

Not only is she beautiful, giving, caring, and intelligent, added bonus,

she has the patience to be an elementary school teacher - which lemme tell you - I REALLY respect!

If ever a girl deserved to find her prince charming it is Shelly.

When I heard all about Ron I couldn't wait to meet him.

They're great together and have amazing chemistry. He makes her laugh like no other :)

He's the yin to her yang, there is no doubt they will have happy and loving years ahead.

Did I mention they were SO much fun to photograph?!
We had a great time at the London Town and Gardens in Edgewater, MD.
Always a phenomenal engagement shoot location!

Meet the Peña Family!

Mother extraordinaire, worked with my good friend Jackie.

On my visit to celebrate Jackie's 26th birthday in Pennsylvania I had the privilege to met with the

Peña Family for a family shoot at the Reading Museum just outside the city.

I know this little cutie will surely make up for my tardy posts.

Sophie is 6 months old and growing up in beautiful Washington DC.

Getting to her parent's condo was filled with obsticals, but completely worth it!

{Note to self - when possible, take the Metro into DC. You're no good at city driving!}

Color | Texture :: Green | Wet

This month's color and texture project was a lot of fun for me!

Green is by far my favorite color and I just love seeing it pop up everywhere.

Such a welcomed change from last month when everything was dried out and brown!!

All of the following images were taken on a chilly, cloudy morning when the dew was still thick.

Eden {17 Months}

I have had the pleasure to photograph this adorable little lady once before.

My, how many things have changed in just over 1 year!!

I was so pleased to hear that Eden is doing big things, including a bright modeling career.

She had a full spread in the January 2011 Parent's Magazene -- Go Eden!

I have absolutely no doubt that she will continue to book many gigs,

she is absolutley adorable and a sweetheart to boot.

I could hang out with Eden and her mom all day!

I have been so behind in keeping my blog updated and I do apologize to those that read on the regular!

Things are picking up for the spring/summer season and the blog has fallen to the wayside.

Ruby & Dan {Engaged}

I knew from the beginning there was something very special about this couple.

The first time I met Ruby and Dan was on a very chilly winter weeknight.

We met at a coffee shop for warmth and to discuss their wedding plans.

Immediately, their proposal story melted my heart and

by the end of our first meeting I was thrilled to photograph their wedding!

There was this moment after we met, though, that made it extra special.

As they walked away from the shop he pulled Ruby in close under his arm to fight off the chill

and I couldn't help but think what a romantic moment it was.

I knew then that I couldn't wait to get these two in front of the camera :)

Ruby. Dan. You are lovely together ~ I can't wait for the wedding!

Rachel, CJ and Hunter {Family}

I know you'll agree with me when I say this is one good lookin' family!

Rachel and CJ's wedding is coming up this summer so we made it a point to grab their family shots

as soon as spring hit.

I can't stress enough the importance of getting to know your photographer before your big day folks.

Hunter is incredibly sweet and smart, not to mention tall for his age!

So full of energy and happiness, I can't wait for your big day this June.

Rachel will be stunning in her white dress, CJ looking dapper, and as Hunter will be filling some big shoes

My younger brother, Patrick, agreed to help me test out some new lighting techniques.
He was a good sport as we did a rush photoshoot one evening after dinner. Thanks little bro!
